You’ve probably heard that the U.S. has the world’s highest number of plastic surgeons and cosmetic procedures performed each year. While this is true, you may be surprised to find that when it comes to the number of surgeries performed by population percentage, the U.S. isn’t even in the top five. Let’s take a look at what’s happening with rhinoplasty around the globe.
Rhinoplasty in South Korea
With the highest percentage of the population undergoing plastic surgery in the world, this little country has a lot of work done. It is estimated that one in five women living in Seoul has undergone some sort of cosmetic procedure. Rhinoplasty is extremely popular in Asia, with most patients opting for a taller, more “Westernized” nasal bridge. Since the number of procedures per person is so high, getting plastic surgery in Korea is much more socially acceptable than it is in many countries.
Rhinoplasty in Brazil
With a reputation for extremely attractive people, Brazil closely follows the US in terms of numbers of surgeons and procedures overall. Plastic surgery is so socially acceptable in Brazil that there are tax programs to support the industry. Though the most common procedures in Brazil are breast and buttock augmentations, all manner of procedures, including rhinoplasty, are popular.
Rhinoplasty in Iran
Dubbed the “Nose Job Capital of the World”, Iran has a very high rate of rhinoplasty, along with Japan, China, and Brazil. Unfortunately, the number of licensed plastic surgeons in Tehran (157) is dwarfed by the number of unlicensed doctors (approximately 7,000), a statistic that does not bode well for patient safety. The cost of plastic surgery is much, much higher than the average monthly income of a typical Iranian citizen, but rhinoplasty remains popular despite this.
Rhinoplasty in Italy and Greece
Despite some economic issues, people in the Mediterranean regions are still flocking to the plastic surgeons’ offices. Liposuction and breast augmentation are popular, though rhinoplasty is nearly always among the most popular procedures in countries around the globe.
Your Options for Rhinoplasty
With the number of board-certified plastic surgeons practicing in the U.S., there’s no shortage of options for prospective rhinoplasty patients. It’s important to do your homework and select a skilled, experienced surgeon you trust.
