In our multi cultural society there is no single “correct” nose. Patients of many different ethnicities seek rhinoplasties every year in the United States and other countries. While some of these patients want dramatic changes and “westernization” of their noses, most of these patients with distinctly “ethnic” noses want subtle but real changes. They want a nose that looks better but want to maintain their overall ethnicity. Hispanic, Indian, Black, Oriental, Italian, Eastern European, Northern European, Slavic, Portuguese and other ethnic noses have distinct characteristics. Cartilages can vary widely in side, shape, strength and orientation. It is very important to understand before surgery exactly what type of changes the patient does and does not want.
